Default Re: Has Mobil 1 changed???

This is something that I think Mobil has changed since last Nov Before that I had no problem
I know it is to soon to tell put 200 mile on jeep today with the Valvoline synthetic
Just pulled the stick out and it is nice and clear Took the oil cap off and it smelled normal just checked my sons 05 Grand with the 4.7 V8 . it has Mobil 1and it really
smell skanky. Has 1,800 mile on the oil and it is dirty as hell
what really got my attention is when I drained the oil last night and the oil was hot the smell was awful. The oil only had about 3,800 mile on it . It was the lifter noise
that morning that got me to check it out time will tell if the Valvoline does any better If any one come up with an answer I would love to hear what the heck is going on. The price for mobil 1 we pay this should not be happening By the way these are all new jeeps with less than 25,000 miles. Valvoline was cheaper by almost 2 bucks

Ok I found this look like a lot of reading on this site it was stated that (surprised to find it based mostly on mineral oil (presumably Group III) plus a good slug of AN. It may also contain a small amount of PAO, but so small that I can't be certain.)

Ok this is what I have found out so far

The new M1 EP 5W-30 SM dated Oct 2006 just came out of the G.C. and it is MOSTLY mineral oil, presumably Group III. It also contains a good slug of AN and some PAO, but little or no ester

I have the Valvoline in my wifes Jeep
I am also going to try Royal purple in mine and see what does better Also looking to use a Wix oil filter

Norm, I decided to check my 2000 Camaro SS since it runs Mobil 1 but I have a pretty bad head cold right now and can't really smell much of anything. It looks a little dark with around 1500 miles on it, but then the LS1 is a high compression motor and runs at a pretty high temp stock. I need to get that lower temp t-stat put in when we break out of the cold weather for sure. I used to run the Castrol Syntec in my old 91 454SS pickup that had a newer crate motor in it. I've never seen oil look so clean after 4000 miles of driving and never used a drop with that motor. But that motor was around 7.9:1 compression so that probably makes a difference.

Same here Before my Grand Cherokee I had a 91 full size Blazer
With the 350 T/b Used Valvoline synthetic for 15 year s and put on 195,000 hard miles on it and the oil always looked clean By the way I was washing the jeep today and was in my Garage and found an old quart of molbil 1 form a few years ago
Opened it up and smelled it and then smell the newer Mobil 1 and there is something going on here. It is not the same thing

By The way Joe Let me know how you make out
This is something I need to follow up on
The vette has Valvoline and it looks good
but then I have not driven it much lately and has about 200 mile on the oil
