I believe there should be more numbers and letters. If it looked something like this: CF-11 17 G1 with an E underneath. Then it would be a 12-bolt from a 1965 Chevelle with positraction and 3.31:1 gears, built in November 17. The letter G (or B or W) would be the plant code, 1 would be the first shift and E (or D) would be the positraction source.
So get under that GTO and see what more you can find. Also get the castingnumbers and dates on the centersection to make sure everything is correct.
