Default Muscle Car Shootout Disappointment

First they ran through the WHOLE SHOW with a slipping clutch in the Hemi Challenger.

They had a GS convertible, so if it's true that the 'vert weighs a few hundred lbs. more than the hardtop, then the GS had a disadvantage in every test.

The Mustang and the Chevelle tied for 1st place, so in the burnout contest/tie breaker, the Mustang won because it had a 4-spd. versus the Turbo400 in the SS.

It was alot of fun to watch, but a little attention to detail would have helped.

...especially for the Mopar dudes.

I agree, but the burnout portion was great!

It was fun to watch, but lacking in real credibilty. Like you said, the GS was a convert and had factory air for even more weight. The Hurst Olds and the Challenger both had manual steering - lotsa fun in the slalom course I must say, I think that was the best running Boss 429 Mustang I've ever seen

Didn't the Boss run like a 5.0 sec 0-60? I was impressed!

Due to the different transmissions and not all cars having a tall rear gear, it wasn't what could be classified as a "level playing field" in my opinion. Very surprised the Stage 1 won the slalom, but was middle of the pack for the speed tests. As Bill mentioned, the extra weight didn't help. Mustang performance was certainly not what I expected either.

If the Hemi did not have a clutch problem, and/or the LS6 had a 4.10 rear, results would likely have been different. Also, I wish the Judge would have been a Ram Air IV rather than III, that certainly would have improved the Goat's performance.

I really enjoyed the show and thought it was well produced

you have to give LMC a big thumbs up for pulling those cars off the showroom and taking them out and pretty much running the snot out of them....in my opinion that took some stones...

Bud.

Your bound to have the enevitable "what if's", but i thought it was a pretty good show. All the cars were not that far apart and im sure that givin another oppurtunity to do it again with a few different mods that the results would be slightly different. I thought the challanger would have done better with a good clutch, but still the cars were close enough that none of them had to hang their heads in shame. I think we should do our own at the reunion

Plus i guessed the chevelle would win and i thought it was fair considering it had an auto and the stang had a 4sp

What great cars!!! I enjoyed watching most of the show. Being a Hemi-Challenger owner, I knew what was going to happen in the slalom(without power steering)and braking. But atleast show me a car without mechanical problems to represent the Mopars!!

All of the other cars were great. Would have loved to have seen the LS6 with a 4-speed and a non-convertible Stage 1. Patrick

I was hoping for a HEMI win, got it but to bad it was the wrong one. I thought the show was well produced as well and anytime I get to see these cars doing their thing it is fine with me no matter who wins. I like most of you am old enough to have seen most of these cars new and at the drags and maybe even a few stoplight encounters.... good old days.
