I don't know if it's really a law, but it's possible (I wouldn't doubt it). I suppose maybe I (the buyer) just didn't know the value of the car myself, until after I acquired it (boy, I'm lucky!), of course! :-)

I'm not a laywer, but I did come across a similar issue recently in a dispute over a piece of antique furniture.The buyer paid $400 for an item that was worth $2000. The seller tried to cancel the deal and it went to court. The buyer ended up winning the case, but that was only because he was "not an expert on the real value of the piece". In a nutshell, if you know the true value of something and manage to get the seller to accept a stupidly low price the court will cancel the sale. You will have been deemed to have "duped " the seller. Probably the reason more of these cases don't end up in court is that the seller never finds out the real value. Bragging about a great deal can get you into trouble.

Yeah, I'd imagine that if someone knew, or considered educating themselves about it, they'd check before putting something up for sale.

It's probably unlikely someone will after, and if they do, to have the audacity to feel so ripped off by themselves that they'd seek legal resource. But, then again, there's a lot of ass---'es out there, too.

I'd just hope anyone that ever might have that happen to them consider the Internet and web searches/spidering and web archives, where someone could easily prove you "knew better". Oh crap, now I have to go remove a couple of posts... just kidding. :-)

Entry level muscle cars still exist. A few weeks ago I bid on a 1972 442 on e-bay and got it at $9,300. It is a beautiful Arizona car that is in excelent condition and nice color combination. I had the car shipped without looking at it after seeing some detailed shots and it was everyting I expected and more. It's just a beautiful original and clean car. I'm in it for under $10,000 with shipping. We had a '72 442 new and I had been looking for a similar car. The nice thing is that my wife and kids can drive it and they are not tooling around in one of my cars that would kill you to see damaged.
