Worry is that they're after the Tags, to affix to a finished car they steal.

Sales like this always make me think of the common quikdraw response....."it's worth what someone will pay for it"......not going to agree or disagree with that, but it's cases like this that prompt folks to ask that question.

I was on the move all week and didn't notice it wasn't over when I initially responded (at $24K). $70K for this is obscene.

The birdcage is NFG. The window trim is rare and expensive, but not impossible to find. There is also repro trim, but don't know if it's any good.

Someone bought window trim and real tags, as far as I can discern.

The guy who burned $70K on this also has the money to get a restomod NOW and not wait 2-3 years for this car to be done.

I almost walked-away from buying this one in 2021 over $5K. Thankfully my wife corrected me. I won't tell anyone what I paid for it then, but it was market price. I think it's worth 2x that now.

People don't generally recognize how rare a 63 340 or fuel car with the original engine is. I cannot confirm that a single original-engine fuelie went through the January auctions this year except for 1 of the Z06s that sold over $1M.

I would not buy-in at today's prices. A 63 fuel coupe was my childhood dream car, but now it's garage art.

----Bob Sindelar had one when he worked at Classic Motors in Hinsdale with me in the same color combo. Have to wonder. That was back around 1975....Bill S

Bill, yes I do wonder if there is a Classic Motors connection.

The owner who had it from the early 1970s until 2019 lived in Skokie. I've spoken with him and he couldn't recall any details on where he bought it. It came from California. Ironically, Bob S sold it for him through Corvette Mike in 2019, when I missed buying it the first time. I eventually got it in 2021. It's serial number 8574, built Feb 9, 1963 (which means it just turned 63 itself). I don't have Bob's contact info to dig into it further.
