Because it is a Rebuilt starter. 418 is cast iron as I have already explained this to you.

Ive been told by EXPERT friend that NO 1108418 ever came with Aluminum Drive Nose....
That my 8418 core was evidently rebuilt incorrectly with Alum Nose..... Anybody reading this have contrary 8418 Facts mine is dated 9 K 22

The last 418 I had was with an aluminum nose. No idea on its history but appeared to be original.

Would also like to find out exactly what that correct nose is for a 418 starter, specifically a 70 L78 4spd application. TY

418 has a Cast Iron housing. If it has a aluminum it is wrong!
