Verne - I'll chronicle my "manuever" with photos and post, or maybe you'll hear about it on the 11 o'clock news!!
![]() BTW, the tank is off of the car. I will clear out any combustibles very thoroughly prior to the procedure. ![]()

I've just spent a lot of time researching "how to weld a gas tank" on the internet...
... it turns out this procedure has been mastered in other parts of the world, long ago..... The most important part of welding the tank is making sure the fumes escape safely without igniting. Therefore, the angle of the tank and the gashole is most important.... see below..... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

No, why do you want to weld the filler neck?
Also, why would you bump it to 12.5CR? Man!! The 11.0 is quite enough ![]()

Marlin - the tank on my Deuce is a Spectrum and the gas cap receiver will not accept a correct gas cap. Schonye is sending me the original top section of my filler neck and I will "graft" the old correct cap receiver on to my new tank.
P.S. I was JK on the 12.5CR. ![]()

Sam,
I've got a gas tank for a chevelle where the seam between the filler neck and tank is leaking and needs to be welded. It too had gas in it but has been bone dry for a couple years. If you want to blow yourself up "twice" I'll send it to you.

Sam, that's what I thought. Usually..... the cause for that situation is becuause the cap ring is for an EEC tank which used a different (non-vented) cap. The depth of the cap ring lip is different to prevent the inadvertent use of the wrong cap - and thereby potentially sucking in the tank!
My advice (albeit unsolicited!) is to use a Quanta tank! A little pricey, but.....
