Hey guys!
I found this gem on ebay and would like some input from the group. It's touted to be an original 1968 L-88 engine ( never apart ) that got separated from the Corvette it came in. What I'm not sure of is the intake. Would Feb. 68 build have a '198 intake? Anyone ever seen one that early before? I believe the distributor is non-Corvette, unless L-88's used a different one than all other Corvettes. The '842 heads have the temp sending unit bosses drilled & tapped. There is a temp sending unit on the drivers side head. Wasn't that a '69 provision? I know some early '842 heads were cast with the temp sending unit boss, but this one is drilled & tapped. Here is the link: L-88 engine Nuch

The ad is saying that it's built in Dec. 68 which makes it a 69 engine. Maybe he revised the ad.

It also has one of those RC blow-proof bellhousings talked about in the SCW '67 Yenko thread.

I thought that the 321 block would put it as a late 67 early 68 date. That T0219IT to me would put it as a February 68 ASSEMBLY date. Looks to me that the BLOCK casting date code, which is rather difficult to read, shows as eithe I-26-7 or I-30-7. ![]() ![]()

I believe the block has a late '67 cast date as well.
Those dam things are hard to read sometimes. ![]() I was assuming an early '68, not '69 build too. Good catch on the bellhousing - missed that one. What about the '198 intake? Was that available in late '67? I didn't think so. ![]() Nuch

If the stampings are genuine, the Vin indicates it's from a '68 model year car..

Feb build date for the engine. The block has been decked, there are radial grind marks on the pad and the "T" is nearly removed. Stamp looks good and it would be nice to find the car, but lack of broach marks make a difference.
