Default L88 Intake Manifolds.

Hi, I have a strange question. I know between the years Chevy used a few different intakes in the L88 cars/motors. The 3885069 (with the open plenum), the 3886093, the 3919851, and lastly the 3933198. You really don't see a whole lot of any of these, however I was wondering, is one rarer than the other ?

The 069 to the best of my knowledge is not an L88 intake at all. The book that I have shows the 093 and the 163 intakes but the 851 is not in there. Although I have seen the 851 a couple of times. The 198 is the most common seen.
IMO I would say the 851 intake is more rare than the others.

Well as far as the 069 goes, I have a few different Chevrolet by the Numbers books and one does mention that Chevy Made a 069 without any plenum at all just for L88's. However you never know. Maybe it was a typo. Same thing goes for the 3919851 my chevrolet by the numbers book doesn't show it existing, but my corvette by the numbers book has it.

It would depend on the year of the motor. From what I get out of it 3886093 and the 3919851 intakes were 1967. 3993198 intake was 1968-1969. 093 intake must be early 1967 and the 851 must be later in 1967 because of the actual part numbers.

the 069 was used early on 67 L88s, ie the 069/093 [2 casting #s] used after, with the 093 alone being used last.[99% of the 093s are dated 11/67]M<any times you will see the double casting # intakes either right on top of each other or in some cases two part #s right along side each other. The 851 isnt a production line intake but an over the counter L88 intake, the 198 was used in 68 and 69. The 198 being shared with the ZL1. As far as rarest,it would be the 069/093 two casting # intakes. as far as desirable it would be the #198.In all cases, all the real cars have thier intakes im sure,so the market for L88 intakes is usually clone/vintage performance related.

Well I guess that answers my question regaurding a 198 intake I have. Thought it may have come from a car but more than likely over-the-counter.

Is there a record kept as to how many of these 198's or any other L-88 intakes that were produced? hundreds? thousands?

Thanks

I wouldn't be ready to throw it in the scrap heap just yet. One of the members here has been selling 198 intakes (very clean I might add) on ebay for around $1000 a pop, so they're not exactly worthless.

I see the 198's go for about $1,500 on ebay all the time. They have really jumped in value in the last year for some reason.
