What is this Blowproof bell housing for?

A friend has come across a blow proof bell housing with these numbers...
"GM8 3733365 9617, these #'s are on the side where the transmission bolts"
What was this for?

I think it's a62 409 bellhousing

Actually it's for a 57 Chevy.
