Anybody got a way to deal with sticky steering wheels? Got a nice 70's Camaro 4 spoke wheel, but it is sticky or tacky maybe a better word. Searched the posts and did not find anything previous on this. Just curious if anyone has a solution...besides getting another wheel...LOL. Thanks.

I would rub it with laquer thinner. I've had good luck with that, unless the wheel is "dyed". If so it won't be dyed for long.

Yep, what Jason said.
Usually, if they've been dyed, they dont get sticky.

A less aggressive solution is full-strength Simple Green. Spray it down and use a brush, then wipe with a rag. You'll have to do this repeatedly, but with patience you can get all of the tacky stuff off without ruining the wheel.

Any idea what causes this. I had a few of these and all of them went sticky even two that were hung in the basement in a controlled enviroment.I cleaned them as you guys suggest but over time they went back to being sticky especially the black ones.

I have had the same problem in the past with other interior parts, like the Camaro "A" pillar covers.
I cleaned them up with enamal reducer, and the were black, and then wiped them down with Son of a Gun. Mike A |

before rubbing it with paint thinner, I would try some wax and grease remover. it is not as abrasive.
