Default Upcoming Generation Camaros

Anyone have any "inside" information on special edition Camaros to be released for '09? I have heard some rumblings from a distant relative at GM that Saleen is working a deal. Probably old news to you guys, but what else is rumored to be in the works? I am planning to purchase one of these cars, and want to find something "special" like Berger or Harrell or something....but am at a loss and the buzz around this new generation has really died down. Anybody from GMMG still reading/posting?

I'll see Ron Mowen and Mike Carnahan before the end of the week and find out what they know. We were all at the F-bod gathering last week end and there was some talk and a new Camaro convertible there. They are the two that built most of the GMMG cars and of course GMMG built the Bergers, ZL-1, Dick Harrell, etc. I can't imagine Saleen getting involved with a GM product.

Here are some pictures I found of a new Saleen Camaro. I think it had something to do with the Transformers Movie.

That's like having a 1969 Shelby Z/28...

Here are a couple of videos of it. I'm interested in some updates too, if anyone has them.

I have a deposit on a new convertible. It would be neat to be able to get a REALLY high horse motor in it.

Regards,

Mark

My plan is to find an upgraded version for purchase. I want something that no one else in my area has. I want to have something that someone will be tracking me down for more information as the first owner....like people do now for Yenkos/COPOs/ZL-1s and such. Luckily, I have had a couple of years to save up to purchase it. Now, the trick is to find it. GM has been very tight lipped about this project, I know someone who is reading this has some insight. I promise not to tell anyone else......

"...It would be neat to be able to get a REALLY high horse motor in it..."

Wasn't there some talk of factory Z06 power landing between the rails of some?.

It'd be nice to be closer to the action as I'd expect there's lots going on in and around Oshawa that most everyone is blind to?. As a kid growing up in Oshawa there was often preproduction and prototype units roaming the streets and nearby hiways.. In later years after we moved to just down the road from the Mosport circuit I'd see P&P units going to and from the track or catch them there on days GM would rent the facility for testing..
As a kid in Oshawa I most recall first seeing the upcoming '65 Chevys...wow, what a streamliner they looked like compared to the slab-sided '64's!.
Although they weren't built in Oshawa, about spring of '81 I ran across an '82 Camaro on a backroad North of Oshawa and chased the guy in my '69 442 post for a while...it was dark blue w/ a little antennae and had emblems covered w/ black tape?.
In the late 80's I chased a new 'Vette down the back roads from Mosport one day that had a Michigan Manufacturer's plate and some funky looking square tail-lights?. Although I can't remember what I was driving that day, knowing the roads I was keeping up to him pretty good until we hit the straight stretch and he was gone...little did I know I was trying to catch the upcoming ZR1!.
Around 1990 I remember a few of the local boys stole some kind of prototype 'Vette from outside the Bowmanville hotel where the GM guys were staying while testing at Mosport...I think it had no alarm or the alarm system was removed or had been disconnected?. Although the car was later found, I don't think the joy-riders were ever caught but expect they had some fun and it made news in the local papers also Vette magazine and a few others made note of the occasion..

So maybe it's too bad Keith's retired now...anyone else on the site here from Oshawa or work at the Motors?.
Also anyone here around Brampton Ontario where the new Challenger is being built?.

The new Camaro is going to start production in about one year, slated to hit the showroom floor first quarter of '09.
The drop top will be brought out later, maybe as a '10.
Since the car will be built on the Zeta platform, Oshawa will also be building 2 and 4 door Chevy versions, as well as Buick and Pontiac variants.
The deal with Steve Saleen was that he was hired to do a GTO for the new movie "Transformers", and since the Camaro will be built on the same platform, GM got him to sign on for a Camaro special edition.
GM has used this same auto-building approach in the past, which in Detroit was called the "Burger King" philosophy, where you get the topping of your choice on the same burger.
Have it your way!
