Default ZL1 Heads

My race car has a set of modified ZL1 heads. I had them heavily ported, extra bolt holes filled, 2.25"/1.90" valves installed. part #3946074. I was curious on whether they were worth selling and just buying another set of heads for my car.

I have no idea if these heads are worth anything after being such extensively modified.

I have to correct something, the heads were modified before I bought the car. My friend Keith who built the car, found these heads about 10 years ago. He sent them to his friend's machine shop and had them modified.

He told me they were rare heads, but I thought they were the more common L89 heads. when I was reassembling the engine I wrote down the part # and called Mallon Chevrolet to look up the #'s. Talk about wood when they told me what I had. But I'm afraid that they are worthless because of what has been done to them. I want to keep them because of how excellent they flow now.

I am just curious if they are still worth anything?

Probably not worth much as a collector item. Cool car.

I'd take L89 heads over ZL1 heads anyday.

The '074 heads are quite common these days on eBay. I see
them in unmodified condition often, so I would say that
your heads are going to be difficult to sell in their
highly modified condition. But then, you just never know...
Just for your information, the 3919842 heads were the L/89
heads of most prevalence.

I believe that the '074 heads might have been used in L/89
applications in the early 1970's ( possibly LS-6 ), but I
am not sure about that. Others may know for sure.

I guess I'll keep them then.

If only I owned a ZL1 Camaro, these heads would be great for F.A.S.T. racing.
