Taken from ImpalaSS427.com
Once again the L-72 was the top of the line engine available in the 1969 Impala SS427, and once again it was not even mentioned in the Chevrolet sales brochures. Accordingly, few buyers knew it was out there for the taking and only 546 were installed in all of the big Chevrolets. It's impossible to know how many were put into SS427 Impalas as Chevrolet did not keep that strict of records. I have never been fortunate enough to come across a full-sized '69 Chevrolet that was so equipped, but I have seen pictures of two. One of the them is shown above and to the left. This is the engine out of the white sport coupe featured in the 1969 SS427 photo gallery . [/ QUOTE ] Also take a look at the link above( LINK ) and to the right that shows the additional options section of the 1969 dealer's form. It specifies that the L-72 was to be used with the SS427 and that the dealer was to also check the Z-24 option box. I guess we all know how far that went, and the L-72 ended up in all the full-sized vehicles.[ QUOTE ]

I thought I saw those in a magazine. Didn't each one of them belong to a couple? If I'm not mistaken, one had His 69, and one had Hers 69 on the plates. I know for sure that I've seen that burnout photo before.

Nice cars. I know where one of the L72 Engines is to one of the 546 that were made. I put it on the site a couple of months ago with the ID numbers, but no one could identfy,or knew where the car was. It was an LS stamp on the pad, Turbo 400.
I had the complete engine, from top to bottom carb to pan in my garage for a year, finally sold it a month ago. Completely rebuild to OE standards. Thought it was a Canadian car with the engine stamp. Sent the ID to George of Canada and he clarified it to be a Janeville WI engine out of a big Chevrolet, like Biscayne, or type. Yes I know, should have kept it. Engine is still sitting at new owner as well. |
