I located my '69 TH 400 Transmission ID plate on the passenger side. When rebuilt years ago the guy sprayed the entire tranny including the ID plate. What product can I use to retain as much factory paint ( if there is any ?) on the plate. I know the important #s are embossed but I know there is some color on the plate...painted on ? photoetched ? Just need some help. Thanks

You oughta try this on another tranny first, but I took all the lettering off a 67 Camaro drag car with enamel reducer. Didn't harm the factory paint below.
