I'm taking off the existing Flowmaster exhaust system and am putting the American Thunder series back on the car. I want/need to refurbish the headers. Can I polish the headers? If so, with? Thanks.

Are they rusty or pitted?

A little pitted on the bottom of collectors, and slightly oil stained (on bottom of collector) from an oil leak.

Rob,
You can use Mothers Mag & Chrome polish, but depending on how good you want them to look, you may have to have them re-coated. I had a set of Hooker Super Comp headers and after two years and not many miles they just looked like you are describing. The coating from Hooker is not the best, so I had them blasted down and re-coated inside and out. Not sure what level you want to take it.

Alan, I'm really want to get the oil stains off the bottom of the pipes/collectors. I know that the pitting can not be taken care of with out blasting/recoating.
By the way Alan, where do you live on the dark side?

Terrace Hill subdivision. It's on the South side of Algonquin Road across from Boulder Ridge. Try the Mothers, it comes in a small jar and it's available most anywhere. It should take the stains out unless they are really bad.
Where in Algonquin are you?

You can use OOOO steel wool also litely. I shoot a thin coat of vht aluminum paint. I just dust it on and it doesn't burn off. Too heavy, it will come off. I have been dodging this for 2 years. Next winter have to get them re-done. They only lasted 2 years from Hooker.
