Polyglas Tires

I was wondering how many of you are running Polyglas tires on your cars and whether you have Goodyear or Firestone? I noticed the feature car has the old tires. Those that do run them, do they get driven much and what are your opinions of them?

I second that. Looks good, performs bad. Since I look at mine more than I drive it, I'll stay with the looks !

The front end alignment specs are different from radial to the old belted tires. If the car is not aligned properly the old belted tires will follow every rut in the road. We have an old original set of F-70 X 14 Uniroyals that we put on or car occasionally for shows etc. Traction wise they are aren't much different from the T/As that we run regularly. In their day the Goodyear Polyglas tires were about the best you could get for traction. I don't ever recall ever seeing them on Chevelles from the facory but they may have been available. The Goodyear Wide Tread GT tires were non-polyglas and were pretty poor in the traction department. Our son has a low mileage '65 Acadian Canso with a 19 year old set of D-70 Goodyear Polyglas tires. They still look and drive like new. The car drives straight down the road as well, not following the ruts at all.

If you desire the stock look, buy the tires.You will get to enjoy the ride after awhile.I think the old cars,Camaro's ect,were designed to be driven on these tires.Watch your tire pressure.I run between 24-28 psi,not 35 psi like a radial.I run two sets,F-70x15 Polyglas & F-70x14 Wide Tred.I like the ride and handeling from the Wide Tred better.I believe both tires hook up better than the BFG radial I had before.Like I said,you will get used to whatever ride differences you notice in a week or two.These tires are NOT the same as a NOS or used OEM tire.They are far superior in materials and 30 yr.worth of technology in manufacturing them.Just my opinion,but I believe in them.......

is anyone running NOS polyglass tires on a daily basis or even close? I have A set of firestone E-70-14's I am mounting on the original steel copo style rims mostly for shows but wonder about A tire that old possibly coming apart or something.

I've got another set of Speedway Wide Treds that are NOS.I don't use them....Flat spots and overall poor driveability until they heat up.I don't have the nerve to drive with them but they are excellent show tires..

I have purchased a set of G-70 14 (wanted the slightly wider tire) Firestone Wide Ovals RWL and currently have a set of 69 GM SS (AO coded) wheels at the powder coater. My car is an 08C build so these wheels were an option. My Camaro is basically a show car/weekend driver and I am really looking forward to getting this setup installed. I also have an engine build planned for this winter. The goal is a minimum of 400hp/400lb torque. I am adding a posi carrier and am planning to change the rear end ratio from 3:31 to about 3:55 or 3:73. I am actively seeking opinions on what heads, intake, carb, cam, headers and rear end seems to work best, so input is appreciated. The desired RPM power range is 15-6500.
