OEM Teakwood Steering Wheel
Absolutely the most beautiful steering wheel ever made, 65-66 Corvette.
Teakwood is an extremely tough, durable wood that was also used on the decks of battleships because of its water resistance. The fact it would splinter and puncture the skin, and possibly the lungs of the driver in an accident was the main reason for discontinuing this option. I purchased this wheel in 1975 at the Bob McDorman Corvette meet in Columbus Ohio. It’s flawless and the only thing I have left of my Corvette days back in my hometown of Springfield, Illinois.

----Chris,,,Your teak is extremely nice. Very original looking. Has it been redone at all? It sure looks new in all respects. I have had, probably, 30 or more over the years and should know. It looks identical to my NOS one except a bit nicer!......Bill S

I’ve seen many teak wheels over the years and I’m aware of the subtle differences, such as the grip (notches on the backside) of a Real one verses a reproduction. The lighting in my photos tends to give a gloss look, but that’s not a true representation. As you know, not two Teak Wheels are the same. Some are light, some dark. The colors on this wheel are perfectly blended and make for a Superior end result. That’s probably why I paid to damn much for it in ‘75. Chris.

----I can't remember which Teak reproducer does this, but one of them has the spacers between the larger sections Quite a bit wider than a real Teak wheel. One way to tell a repro from an original, and yours, of course is absolutely an original!.....Bill S
