Default 837 alternator

working on a 72 chevy pickup and this is the alternator on it is it a good stamping

I have looked at thousands of alternators on an off cars and have yet to find one. Lucky!

Why does the 'E' in the date look so strange? I'm not an expert and not doubting the ones that are, it's just that the horizontal lines look extra long. Different than the E in NEG.
