I don't like it. Several things don't look right. I'm sure guys with a lot more experience than me will be along to weigh in.

Somebody is lathe crazy but atleast they took the time to crudely "dot" the ends of the straightlines on the number 4.

Agreed. Cut down a bit too much with a lathe. 3.819 to 3.813 is the nominal diameter I have found to be what distributors are normally. Any smaller than that in either direction, either across the stamped numbers or 90º out, I'd call it a fake. Most are not smaller in the area where the numbers are stamped. Be especially leery of anything coming out of Tennessee, but also Angola Indiana, although fakes are coming out of other places too.

One more thing to add on this particular unit and to keep an eye out for in the future searches. The area just above the machined diameter where the numbers are is also a machined diameter. On this one, it is so corroded it now appears to be a cast diameter. This means that at one time the entire distributor was this corroded, but now the stamped area is not. You may be able to see this on other machined surfaces also.

They are getting better. But this one has a way to go.

Unfortunately a restamp. That one went thru one of the big rebuilders who use steel shot to clean their parts before rebuilding. That's why it's so rough at the cap retaining area. I just sold one here and if the purchaser wants to put up the pics you will see the differences.
