I took apart a mirror for my 68 Camaro years ago. From memory I think I poured Acetone into it with the mirror facing up. Then let it set for a while and it causes the glue to expand and break down so that the mirror glass can be removed. Once that is done you can see a plate holding the swivel ball. Grind off the peens and it will all fall apart. I haven't finished it yet but I will probably drill and tap for a screw to attach the plate. Who re-plates the mirrors?

This is a 69 mirror. I soaked it mirror down in acetone over night and it was still tight. Mine had a black silicone like material on it and acetone didn't do much. Glass was a bear to remove. I guess this silicone material isn't as common as the other adhesive they used. The regular stuff should loosen right up. Drill out 2 rivets and your good. Just be careful removing mirror, you will know if it's still tight. Heartbeat city does sell dated mirrors if you break it.
