Thinking about repainting my Camaro to original color so will need obviously to remove the old paint and primer. Current paint job is excellent, no body repair needed. What is the best way to go: soda blasting, chemical or old fashioned sanding? Heard soda blasting is messy and may leave soda residue inside body and engine compatment.

I'd try a straight razor blade held in a pair of vice grips first, depending how tight the old paint is bonded - I've had some where the paint scrapes off in 4-6" strips!

find a plastic media blaster, just had my Porsche done by a firm in CT, they did an excellent job, very professional. Plastic media will not warp panels, won't leave any residue and won't trap moisture to develop rust later on. Worth the $$

I found a guy in Vegas that does "dustless" blasting. Its crushed glass and water. Works great, does not warp panels. Last step is he washes the job down with a rust inhibitor.
Now, don't believe a dang thing about "dustless" He did it in my BIL driveway in Vegas and I gave the next door lady 20 bucks to take her car through the car wash, it was covered in dust. http://www.cleanworksblasting.com/ He bought his system from: http://dustlessblasting.com/ So, find a dustless blasting business in your area....give it a try. He did my whole front clip and trunk for 300 Bucks. The crap you see under my car is the "Dust" crushed glass. ![]() ![]() |
