COPO Pete decals & article

A while back, dad made this post about the decal(s) on our cars that we got from Vicky and the kids, and I have sent out the few decals I had to those who have asked...but Vicky was kind enough to send me a bunch more, so for those interested just shoot me an email [chevy454 at yenko.net] with your mailing address and how many you want and I'll get them in the mail asap.

Also, Vicky was kind enough to send along a copy of their local newspaper which published a "thank you" note...if you read nothing else, read the poem at the bottom:

Thanks for posting that Rob - and sending the decals, pretty touching stuff. A big thank you to Vicky for making the decals. I only met Pete once - at SCR 14- but definitely someone who I will always remember. RIP.

Thank you for posting that Rob, I wept instantly. I miss him. Went up to see Vicky and the boys this weekend. They are amazingly strong people.

I was thinking of Pete this past weekend while cutting the lawn. Many memories came to mind, and as I pushed my lawnmower I tried to decide my best memory:

We were racing at Stanton, and Pete made a reference to Neal's L79 Nova &quot;.... stock? more like 'Pro Stock'!&quot;. [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif[/img] We were racing at Gateway, I asked Pete about shifting tips, his response? &quot;Stop shifting like a granny, and you'll pick up a tenth or two!&quot;. I miss him.

Over the years I watched Eric and Owen spend time with Pete at the drag strip, and decided that I wanted that experience too - hence my foray into Jr Dragsters with my kiddies. I look forward to seeing Eric and Owen continuing on.

The decals have arrived and will be placed on all of our race cars. Pete will ride with us as long as we are able.

I never knew or met COPO Pete, except to read casually posts here. Not to hurt anyone, but what went wrong? A brief synopsis would suffice---I know nothing about what happened except that he had a heart problem. I know he was a special guy, just from reading here. I'm not morbid, just trying to find out what went wrong. Thanks in advance, Dave Siltman.
