<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Juechter said the base 2014 Corvette will generate 450 horsepower or greater. The all-new Corvette also is expected to generate 450 foot-pounds of torque and achieve more than 26 miles per gallon fuel economy.</div></div>

While I didn't have 450hp/450ft lbs, I was getting 26+ mpg in my 89 Corvette on a trip between South Bend and Milwaukee and back, using all eight cylinders. Never went faster than 135 on that trip either.

----I have heard of several 89 era and a bit newer Corvettes that have hit 32 MPG on the road. During one of the earlier gas price scares more than one guy went out and bought a Corvette to weather the storm in style......Bill S

Dad frequently sees high 20's for MPG in his 96 LT4.

We've put about 11K miles on our 2005 six speed C6 and can get just shy of 35 mpg (Imperial) which is about 29 US on straight highway running. We've run three consecutive tankfuls in the 34.4 - 34.9 range on highway runs with just a little town driving. A friend's '89 L98 automatic car can run no better than 26 mpg (Imperial). Driving style makes a big difference as does straight highway versus town and country, so the only fair comparison would be the same person, same gas and same route. I'd sure like to have an LS2 or LS3 with the six speed in an old Chevelle. The way these engines idle, no one would ever suspect anything. Why doesn't GM come out with a new COPO Chevelle? The 427 is already there. It could be done with Camaro underpinnings. They blew the opportunity with the Camaro building only a handful when they could have had a few thousand out on the road for everyone to see.

Chevelleless after 46 years......but we did find a low mileage, six speed, silver 2005 Corvette. It will just have to do for now.

What I found that got me the best mileage on the interstate, and didn't p.o. too many people, was to run rather quickly up to 81 mph (dash gauge showed 17 mpg @ a steady 81 mph) then back off the pedal just slightly (dash gauge showing 69-99 mpg) and let the car slow to about 62-65 mph and repeat. I bought the car new for my then gf and the mileage and performance just got better as miles were put on it. Sold it in 91 after we split, but I still have the 87 305 tpi Firebird Formula I had bought her earlier, but I never checked mileage on that one.

I had a '99 C5 6 spd Convertible that consistently got ~30 mpg on the Florida highways, which I was very pleased with.
