I just bought a nos cam still in the gm tube. The first 4 numbers on the tubes tag is 3883 the other 3 are missing it has no oil groove so I'm assuming it's the 396/350 cam for 69. But on the end of the cam is stamped 8911 then D329. The only other markings is purple paint by the dist. gear with the numbers 65 and on the opposite end at the oil pump cam is RSCL AND D1.
Any help would be appreciated. http://s269.photobucket.com/albums/jj67/67rsss396/Cams/

Yes,a 396/350h.p. cam.Part# should be 3883986 and the cast# is 3883944.

Hi thanks for your response. So the tube is for a 396/350.
But what about cam inside it is stamped on the end 8911 and the only cam I can find ending in 8911 is an L88 cam. Is this correct. I got the cam from a friend with many gm nos parts, there were several other cams on the shelf, but this was the only gm nos one.

Check to see if there are any numbers cast into the cam between the lobes.Should have three or four numbers, which are the last digits of the cast number. Also check for a small symbol between the lobes, some cams have one.

The only other markings is purple paint by the dist. gear with the numbers 65 and on the opposite end at the oil pump cam is RSCL AND D1. There is a place at the purple paint area that looks to be like a date or part # but can not read it. See pic.
