Default 1968 Camaro SS 396/375, L-78/L89 on C/L in Nor Ca

I don't normally post things from other sources but if this ad is true then someone on this site might be very interested!

I have not called on the ad because I don't want to be a tire kicker (even though it's local to me). I have no personal knowledge of the car or the owner...

But an original owner, original paint documented black on black L-89 car has got to be fairly desireable....

Here's is a copy and paste directly from the ad:

Yes, it is one of 260 1968 Camaros made with the aluminum head 375 hp 396 engines, M-22 4 speed, 4:56 posi rear gear and I am the original owner. I ordered the car from Fairway Chevrolet in San Bruno, CA. The car has spent its entire life in the Bay Area. I have all the original paperwork including the warranty plate with my name on it and all the option codes noted. It is black on black and has never been in an accident and never repainted. The interior is in excellent condition as is all the glass and trim. Other factory options include am radio, tinted glass and stripe delete. It was delivered with black rims and poverty caps that I still have. The milage is 56K. It presently has a 1965 327 and M21 installed and runs great. I have an original J code 396 block and the correct aluminum heads. Other automotive interests motivate the sale. Call me with your questions, thanks. Phil Cool 707 433 2272

PHIL COOL? Oh man, its gotta be the same fellow who built one of the greatest '32 Fords of all time. Anybody who felt the need to put a blown L88 into a '32 in the late 70s would probably have felt the need to order an aluminum headed L78 w/4.56's in 1968. Definitely detail oriented, so I expect the paperwork is all there and nice. Original Camaro engine likely got used on something else over the years.....

I had a deal with the seller the night he listed the car. He didn't want me to wire a deposit on the car though. I've heard this before! Needless to say he is now taking the highest offer with serious buyers! Cool car I would have liked to own but not at any price now. Good luck to all bidders!

Man, I don't know....after 41 years of ownership and all of a sudden other automotive interests dictate a sale? That just sounds strange. Tell 'ya what though.....if you really had a deal with him and he backed out on you for more money, he sure didn't live up to his last name of "Cool". I've turned down higher offers on cars after verbal agreements have already been made but I'm a man that tries to stand by his word. If a man doesn't stand by his word, then he's not much of a man. On the other hand.......I have NEVER called about a car for sale, be told that it's sold, and then tell the seller that I'll give him more money to tell the original buyer that he made a mistake on the price or something. I've been burned by sleazebags like that after I've had verbal agreements and that just makes by blood boil! Makes me feel kinda.........punchy!

Phil Cool's '32 was the AMBR winner in '77 or '78. Blew everyone away too. Cover of Hot Rod. 30K for a documented original owner L89 Camaro seems low to me though.

I think 30K sounds about right, especially if you already agreed to sell the car for your asking price to a buyer. The car is missing it's entire drivetrain including the rear end. I could see if the original paint was in better shape, but he described it to me as a 30 footer.

I have not spoken th the sell but it sounds like it COULD be the original engine or at least a correct type engine with the car. What is the 1965 327 worth? Certainly something to someone.

Although his statement notes 'made with' did the seller provide anything to specify the car was factory equipped w/ L89 equipment or dealer added?.
Is the MT suffix on the POP?.
What's w/ the note on the J code block?.
Does he have a '69 L89 JJ sufix block available or just a J something else block?.
A true original stamping JJ block w/ Vin is worth procuring on it's own and searching for the car!.
The no hit black/black original paint thing and suggested condition especially w/ steelies combo sure sounds good!.

I think someone said the block he has came out of his brother's car that was destroyed. They had both bought L89's ?

Phil said he and his cousin both ordered L89 '68 Camaros together. The block was from his cousin's car and needs 1 sleeve at least. The block was a few hundred vins away from Phil's car.
