Default My view on emissions in Ontario

We often get calls from people in Ontario that have been pulled over by the Ministry of the Environment and charged with having a piece of emissions control equipment missing on their vehicle. In Ontario you are not allowed to remove emissions control components from your vehicle, such as an AIR pump, evap canister, EGR valve, catalytic convertor, PCV or whatever. It has nothing to do with Drive Clean or emissions testing. All vehicle, right back to the late 60's with PCV's even, must retain these on their vehicles. If you remove it you are open to a fine of around $380. The biggest failure is people who put chrome breathers on their rocker covers that are vented to atmosphere, this will get you every time. They should be vented to the carburetor or air cleaner. I try and tell guys at car shows about this but I end up getting into arguments about Drive Clean. Again this is just a heads up. The inspectors walk through the car show looking at your cars, then pull you over as you enter the public street. I do not know what other states/provinces do this. Just trying to save you some money and time.

they go to various events through the year, even ricer shows. they can pull you over as you are driving down the road. usually they pick vehicles with visible smoke, but I know that many old car car guys put the biggest carb on the car they can find, dont jet it properly, and you can smell the raw gas out the tailpipe as they drive by, also many older trucks are checked, so be smart.

That's totally rediculous. Hope they never get so silly here or we're all screwed.
