Default 67 chevelle BB motor mount help!

Ok I bought a set of BB frame mounts and motor mounts for the 67 chevelle I am doing last year off e-bay. I questioned the seller when I tried to put the 2 together and the holes didn't line up. The seller said he sells a lot of them and the weight of the motor will help the holes line up. Well that is a bunch of BS because with the motor in place this is what I ended up with. I think I have the correct frame mounts but the wrong motor mount's. Did anyone ever run into this problem and what did you do to resolve it. Not really sure what I should do. Should I try another set of motor mount's.

Driver side

Passenger side

I did learn something tonight! A 396 with a turbo 400 and a mildon 7 quart oil pan will not go into a 67 chevellle together. I even have the complete front end off the car. THen I split the 2 apart and ran into the motor mount problem.

Jason;

I ran into the same exact problem with the repop frame mounts on my `67 SS. Do you have the pass. side frame mount slid down as low as it will go in the slots on the frame? I have mine in the lowest position and I still wound up having to install washers between the motor mounts & the block to get them to line up with the frame mounts.

You could remove the frame mounts and slot both sides another 1/2" or so and that might be enough to get them to line up.

BTW, a BB engine & trans will not go in together on an early A body even with a stock pan, they have to go in seperately.

Eric,

Thank's for replying I have the passenger side all the way down also. But why are the top 2 holes slotted and not the bottom hole. This may be my problem. My car was a small block car so are BB car's suposed to have all three holes slotted on the passenger side frame? Was your car an original BB car?

Mine is an original BB car, and all 3 holes on the pass. side of the frame were slotted.

ok, I ran into this problem before with a customers 67. I ended up taking a 6ft prybar with a tape covered end so as to not damage the paint and wedging it in between the frame and the engine bracket from the front and prying up while the engine sat on the mounts, worked perfect and the bolts slid right in...

A pry bar might work good to get them in, but how are you going to remove them if you need to. I'm glad mine weren't put in that way.
A friend had the same problem with his Chevelle. When I stopped over to help, his looked just like your picture. It turned out he had the wrong motor mounts. They look similar, but BBC motor mounts are slightly different than SBC motor mounts. He swapped them out, and it went right in. Good Luck

I guess I must of did something wrong by slightly tweaking the stamped in China bigblock engine brackets , because the motor has been in and out of his car a few seasons now and the bolts seem to just slide right in. My guess is when the brackets were stamped as in most overseas cases, were a mile off. He ran the same style engine mounts as that are pictured but later switched to a Moroso solid style and guess what..they slid right in..

Success the motor and transmission are installed! I took Eric’s advice and made the lower hole on the passenger side frame about a ¼ of an inch lower so all three holes were slotted and the motor mount bolt’s went in with no problem. Thanks Eric.

Ok now onto the next problem I have. The stock cross member don’t line up with the turbo 400 transmission mount. I am sure someone put a turbo 400 in a 66-67 chevelle before? What my father and I are thinking of doing is moving the mounting tab for the transmission mount to the backside of the cross member. I will take some pictures when we finish it. Anyone one have any idea’s?

Second problem but I think I know the answer. My car was a power steering car and I thought I would be able to use a Saginaw pump set up but it hit’s the steering box. On 67 BB cars what does the power steering set up look like anyone have any pictures to share with me? Wasn’t the reservoir on the driver’s side inner fender?

Jason;

You'll have to drill new holes in the frame rails for the TH400 location. Just center the crossmember up on the trans mount and side-to-side, mark the locations and drill 4 new 3/8" (actually, 13/32" is better so you have some wiggle room) and bolt it down.

Piece of cake.

Glad to hear the motor mount issue is resolved.

Eric
