I have a Kal Custom bug eye B-M air cleaner but the foam filter is long gone. What are you guys using as a substitute? I tried some foam from a craft shop but it's a little thick at about 1/2", plus it's green.

I use the Edelbrock replacement foam for their triangle style open element air cleaners. I use 2 filters and glue them together edge to edge with black 3M weatherstrip adhesive, you dont need much!!. I then trace the flyeye out on the foam and trim to fit. I try to get as little of the parting line where I glued as I can. Ive done this a few times and have had no issue's.

You have to use foam that will BREATHE...I have original foam that I may be parting with someday..I have a bunch of new old stock flyeyes and some are damaged..Hence I have extra locking rings..bases, tops and filters...the original foam is black and about 1/4 thick..they sold replacement foam at motion back in 1972 for 1.99 each...I have been selling these nos aircleaners for 150.00 on this site and ebay..Im taking time off from selling the end of feb. and then I'll go thru all of them..Mike.

I still have a couple of original packaged foam inserts for the fly-eye air cleaners that I just keep for nostalgia sake and they look fine in the plastic covered display..but after time the foam looses its elasticity and actually breaks down almost turning to sawdust when you handle the foam ..If you can form a ball with the foam and it spring back to its shape it's O.K.--....

Window ac foam from ant hardware store works just fin. You have to cut it round but it's a good color match and breaths just fine. You also don't have to worry about it turning to dust right out of the package like 40 year old NOS elements. But change it frequently if you drive the car. Heat degrades it rather quickly (hey, it ain't a K & N)
