Default 1969 Z/28 smog pipe GM NOS !!

I just listed a right side smog pipe on ebay item # 280292986543 for $9.99 no reserve. This is a very nice item box dated 12/68.

That looks like a 1968 RH side. The 69 would have a 90 degree angle towards the front of the engine where the valve screws on. The one pictured goes straight up.

ANYBODY, know the facts on what was original, correct coating for these smog tubes.......( NOT aeresol paint)

What about Black Zinc........????????

Black Zinc is correct. It will actually turn out brownish.

Tommy, Interested to learn your source of info on the BLACK ZINC plating......

I've seen the Brown coloration you wrote about. May we assume this is after install and normal engine operation ????

Chuck,

I showed several original survivor smog tubes to my plater and he confirmed that the plating used was indeed black zinc. The color can vary from black to brown to green after plating depending on several variables. As a second source, Jerry McNeish also lists black zinc is the correct smog tube plating on his website.

I have since found out this is not for camaro and is for 69 and 70 Corvette with HP engine.
