I just got off the Phone with Chris at Authur Gould. I accurately described thd engine, the tranny, the engine modifications and the radiator modification.

Chris recommended a hi flow impeller. Pump is shipping tomorrow.

Have you considered running the L-46 camshaft out of the Corvette?

Yes! The cam I decided to go with is a hybrid cam made by Comp Cams that is called the L-79 &quot;Nostalgia Plus&quot;. According to Comp Cams this cam is the generic replacement for both the L-79 and the L-46.

Replicating the L-46 is a more accurate target when describing the build for the Z-11 rebuild, so you are exactly right. I made reference to the l-79 cam as that is what it is commonly called as the L-46 is a lesser known engine in general circles.

Sal,

The CRG has an associate member named Alan Colvin who wrote the series &quot;Chevrolet by the numbers&quot; If you have the 1965-1969 copy look at page 102 for usage applications with head 3927186.

It was made with both 1.94/150 or 2.02/160. Lower horse applications like my car got the 1.94/150 from the factory.

Alan's CRG BIO can be found here: http://www.camaros.org/aboutcrg.shtml#Members </div></div>

Yep! I have his book--- just saw it. States that the #186's were possibly used interchangeably! Must be something rare to have these heads though. Maybe when they were assembling the engine they were short a pair of the #041's but who knows. Still neat!!!

Thanks,

Sal,

My original 186&quot;s were valved for 1.94/150 (low horse) and I have a $900.00 bill from the machine shop for the conversion. It is funny to me that this would be considered a rarity as I have been looking with a focus on late production pace car small blocks for decades-and double hump heads were present in a significant portion of this population. So much so that I honestly did not give it a second thought as to the relative rarity of the head usage.

Good luck with your engine build! Have you posted pics of your car on here? Would like to see them! By the way, I am currently running the #041's on my '69 SS but my block is a 1969 HC coded block (originally came with a 2 BBL, 250HP and manual trans.) but the engine is running a nice cam and has 11:1 compression. I guess it's safe to say it's got some mild work done to it!

Sal,

It is pretty much all done.. just waiting for some good weather to break the rebuild in properly. Externally this is 350/300 with TH-350 so the air cleaner is kind of specific to this application with the ThermoAC warm up valve including manifold stove with pipe. Since the car is original and I have owned it for 25 years it still has some very neat untouched original stuff on it... check out the Fuel line to fuel pump hose.. &quot;GM GAS D03369&quot;

This is a driver.

Here is the 21 inch 4 core radiator that I had custom made for this build.. its street manners and overall driveability should improve.

Modifications to the original engine:

186 heads converted to use 2.02 valves
Roller rockers
L-79 350 HP Cam
Keith Black hypereutectic pistons
Eagle Rods
GM 1187 Steel Crank
302 Z/28 windage tray and Z/28 pan with the internal rails
High flow impeller modified water pump

Trans input: Hughes 2000 stall converter.
