Thanks [/ QUOTE ] That's exactly what I thought... every once in a while there is a project that comes up... about a year ago there was a dusk blue/blue std int pre X code Z mostly original paint car had the 4 original dated ralleys and all... it sold on ebay for $2500... they are out there... just few and far between... Thanks for your posts, I am watching ebay daily, the question is buying something that I can afford at this time $4000-$5000, a rusted out shell that I can restore over time the right way, I should say my way trying to keep it as much GM as possible or spending $10000-$15000 on something that someone pieced together with aftermarket metal then tearing it apart down to the bare shell and starting over, (I dont mean to knock someone for doing this but I want real GM metal in my car). I have been watching and listening a long time and many say dont buy someone else, start with the best shell you can afford and do it yourself then you will know what you have.
NOW THERE HAS TO BE SOMEONE OUT THERE THAT HAS OR KNOWS OF AN OLD REAL Z SHELL I CAN PURCHASE AND BRING BACK TO LIFE. This is not someone wanting tags or to do a rebody,as I could simple do, but a camaro enthusist who wants the real thing, a camaro with tags never removed and a little history would be nice. Now wouldn't it be cool to follow the built on here from junk to gem, I need your help. |

I am with you Tim. I love original sheetmetal. I try to buy good used whenever I can. I even like good used better than NOS. NO Taiwan crap for me. Repro stuff from other countries makes me feel like I am putting together a kit car of some sort and not good old American Muscle. I know where there is a rust free (pretty much) 69 Z in the midwest but not sure he will sell! Its a very nice project car with a shell like you are looking for. Keep looking and good luck!

If you start out with a rusted out shell for $5000 and no drivetrain, you're looking at another $5000 (at a minimum) for GM sheetmetal (quarters are $3,000). A DZ engine will set you back another $5000 and add another $5000 for the rest of the drivetrain and incidentals. You're already at $20,000 and haven't touched the interior, paint, suspension or any of the other labor. JMHO, but this is not a good strategy. Buy the most complete car that you can and you'll be happier in the long run. Running, driving projects can be had for a lot less than $20,000 if you don't need the cowl tag to say X33 or X77.
