[ QUOTE ]
Guys,
More than likely these were BB 402 cars, and yes the "Air Ride" system that was standard on all Z20 Monte Carlo SS cars was an RPO for other cars as well. I have seen a few non SS's with this system. In all this time, there have been more than a handfull of Monte 402's with a 4 speed show up. Never a SS. Statistics alone would dictate that at least one would have shown up.

Now, if you had the "LS5" out of that car and the vins on the "454" and the 4 speed matched.............

Like I said, there are many "ghost" stories of that kind. Also, the same thing goes for a Monte SS with the LS6, plent o stories and "friends" but no one has yet to have one spring up.

Is it possible? Sure, seemed like anything was back in the day , I know I sure wish I was around and knew then what I do now!

[/ QUOTE ]

DAAAAAAAAA Joe do you think you can tell the difference between a 402 and a 454 since when you parted that car you probally had 50 BBC engines and bought the engine for a spare for your 70 ls-5 chevelle. Give me a break. I guess that old flywheel with the big weight on it you have on your bench off the monte, or the cross mount muncie shifter laying in the front seat of that old 68 impala in your barn is not real either.Nor was the N20 right on the cowl tag which is why the guy took it out of the woods.
I was told after I did some research on this car long after it was parted that there was 4 of these produced in canada so really what are the odds of one showing up. NOT.
This one was the real deal and buried in my pile of BBC and muncies I still have the engine and trans unfortunately I cannot dig through all of the stuff right now.
Believe what you want but I know different.
The 4spd 70 monte 454 lived in canada for sure

All I can say is show me the proof and I will be happy to concede. As of now, you say that you have the engine and transmission. Should be easy. Unless you are not as sure as you think you are. Also, as far as I know, there were NO codes on the Monte Carlo trim tags that showed any type of "Z"20 SS options. Don;t know what a "N"20 is?

Just got my hackles up Marlin that is all. Just because 37 years later we cannot locate one they didnot exist. BS.
Unfortunately when I had my access to it I didnot know what it really was but who cared back then especially with an old Monte. They were not what we called a collector or a muscle car back in the day. In fact in my town mostly the girls and school teachers drove them.Just a car we would check for options for your chevelle and part out. I parted a couple other monte BBC also but nothing like this black one and no other 454's.Everyone today is a expert but in many cases don't have a clue what was really made expecially when you add canada to the mix.
I cannot dig right now through 35 BBc blocks to prove a point and those that know me understand why.
Sorry on the "N' I guess i should have said "Z". Regardless it was stamped right on the cowl tag. This car was produced in canada.

Just because one hasn't "shown up" doesnt mean that it won't, or that they ever produced one. Who in their right mind would Clone and restamp a 4-speed LS5 monte? Spend 45k on a resto to get maybe 20k out of the car? I know i wouldn't, and ims ure if one shows up without dosc, they wouldn't have wasted their time restamping a Monte anyway.

This one falls in line with the L89 Nova and 70 L78 TH400 Camaro threads.Just think if we had actual production records then we'd be bored to death like the mopar and Ford guys

Personally i'm from Missouri on all of em.People were doing all kinds of swaps when the cars were only a couple of years old, then thirty years later our memories burn it into total conviction that's the way it came from the factory because nobody would bother doing that to a car back then.

1st - So, if you can't remember Z and N codes, but you can remember a xx year old block pull, but *dont* have *time* to pull and post pics of your "supposed" 4 speed monte, I don't have a whole lotta belief in this 4 speed thing.

2nd - No where did I say that there is 100% no way. If fact, I even stated that it seemed that if you knew the right people you could get almost anything.

Finally, my point stands, if there have been 4 speed Monte 402's that have shown up, why not any 4 speed SS's?

Same points with the LS6.

Bottom line. If you have the proof like you say you do, put up or shut up!

I agree many were doing swaps in those years but no one makes a mess like GM when they install a 4 spd floor hump nor would anyone take the time to install the worst 4spd cross member mounted muncie shifter ever produced not to mention hook up a complete column reverse lock out system.
Only Gm does that
