Sam,
Its been awhile since I have messed with a mechanical resto on one of these caps. I don't remember how I went about it but I think it involved a stant cap. There was a thread on this a year or two ago. I think it may have been Budnate who was talking about scavenging the yards for these caps and fixing them. I'm glad the windex and steel wool worked out well. I use windex for almost everything, sometimes even glass ![]() Sorry I could not be more helpful, Jason |

Here's a before and after pic of the cap off of my 65 vette. The plating was done with a do-it yourself kit (Caswell).

what kind of plating is it??? Nice Job.
If you need to change the seal and remove the rivet will you use the same rivet or get a new one some where??? PJ |

P.J., it's cadmium plated and the aluminum rivet is the original. A member of our local NCRS chapter did it and he's able to mask pieces of the assembly you don't want plated like the rivet. I didn't need to replace any seals on it yet but I plan to use what I can off of a new aftermarket cap.
