Norwood & Van Nuys received axles from the same source; the Chevy Axle plant in Detroit.

Like master cylinders drums are castings that were painted after oily machining operations. The paint did not adhere for long.

I just dug out the May '69 Hot Rod; the photo is on p 53. The circumference of the drum is clearly black; the face seems to not be completely painted. There is slight overspray on the end of the axle flange.
