what tires are period correct for 69 camaro they sell two different types one with the tire size in raised white letters and one without ? [/ QUOTE ] No, that's only for Polyglas which is NOT correct for 69. You want Wide Tread only (non-belted). To further confuse, the full name for Polyglass is Custom Wide Tread Polyglas...... And to clarify, Goodyear, Firestone, Uniroyal and Goodrich were all suppliers of RWL tires to Chev in 69 and all are correct. Of course, only the Goodyear Wide Tread is being reproduced correctly for 1969 use. |

Wait, so I'm confused now between what you guys are saying and the fact I think Chevy had about 2 or 3 different types of white letter tires in the '69 catalog. I'm not disputing firstgenaddict's assertion and pic that those Firestones are THE correct tire, because I believe him.
However, what ones should we get now? The ones that say Goodyear and then Polyglas F70-14 are NOT correct? I see them on about 3/4 of restored vehicles. If those aren't correct, should we get the ones that were on the Z/28? (see below) If not, which ones. A pic would be helpful. Thanks. ![]() |

OK, perhaps I figured this out. We DO want the ones that say Polyglas F70-14 on the tire.
![]() They are actually the Goodyear Custom Wide Tread Polyglas mentioned by Dave above. See here: http://www.universaltire.com/cart.ph...ategory_id=345 Sorry for the confusion. I know that Ricks or some other place I saw only sells the tires that say Polyglas on them without the tire size. Hope I got that right. They're too expensive to mess up. haha. |

The F70-14 RWL tires that came on a 69 SS/COPO are:
1. Firestone Wide Oval F70-14 as in the picture above (small white letters without the big O) - not reproduced 2. Uniroyal Tiger Paw F70-14 (small white letters) - not reproduced 3. Goodyear Wide Tread F70-14 (small white letters, NO Polyglas) - reproduced as "F70/14 Speedway Wide Tread RWL" by Kelsey.

![]() [/ QUOTE ] These first one you posted pics of is the one you want. Wide Tread, NOT POLYGLAS. I agree 3/4 of the restored 69s you see have Polyglas tires on them, (either that or the 70-up style Wide O Ovals) but that doesn't make them right. PS... Z/28s had E70-15 Wide Tread GT's or Firestone Sport Car 200's.

Oh wow. OK, well, I'm glad I saw this discussion. I would have purchased the wrong ones. Crazy. Thanks Joe and thanks for the list Jeff.

I need a set for my 70 Camaro SS. I assume the correct one's would be F70-14 Polyglas.

If the car was originally shod with F70-14s, then you could also use the repop Firestone Wide Oval F70-14s with the big O.
