The only way to tell if the trans is "street friendly" is to pull the side cover and see if all the gears still have sychronizer teeth and the brass blocker rings. If only half of the sychro teeth are missing on the gears and the brass rings still have their teeth, it can still be shifted normally. If there are big block style teeth visible on the gears where the little sychro teeth normally are, it's a "race only" tranny. Still might be valuable enough to put a new gear set in though.
