Don't pay attention to these smart asses. Yes, the originals were indeed cut with a torch. You obviously want to know WHERE to cut out. I believe that if the tunnel is original, you will find four little dimples representing where the four screws go to hold down the shift boot trim piece. Drill those out, screw the trim piece in place, and you can use it as a template to mark the hole.

That hole is for a 1967 car and probably a automatic not correct for a 69 4speed.

Ok I found one you should be able to use. This is from a original 1969 SS 4speed car from california and is a LOS car.

if i recall right a auto hole only needs to be trimmed on the left up to 1/4" from the screw hole on the left and the shifter factory or a hurst console shifter clears properly and the factory dust boot lands back down on the factory screw holes. if you look at the two pics you will see the 1.5" diff, no need to go crazy cutting, 10 mins with the jig saw does the job
