I've had it done also Chuck. My experience was the same, painless and over with before you know it. The worst part... well yes, is the solution drinking and the bathroom visits. It's so worth having it done.

Add me to the list of lucky recipients of said procedure...
Docs thought I might've had polyps (sp?) but didn't find anything. I was knocked out as well, so my only "emotional trauma" of the procedure was the previously mentioned less-than-pleasant pre-treatment festivities. I'd sooner whack myself in the kneecap with a ballpeen hammer than drink that phospha-soda concoction again. Whoever came up with that stuff is truly demented. |

Funny, but a little unrealistic.. He would be "doped" up before the "insertion"..
![]() I recently took my father for his first one of these and he is 63 years old.. It was funny to watch him after the procedure being under the anisthetics.. I got to sit with him immediatley after it was over and he was so "doped up" he kept asking me the same questions over and over.. Of course I drove him home and sat with him for about the next 4 hours until he was back to normal.. While sitting w/my father in the recovery room area there was another gentleman who was probably around 50 yoa that the anisthetics took another kind of effect to.. This guy was hilarious, he was immediately up and walking around after his procedure. He walked over to the nurse's station and was winking at them and even said "hey baby whats going on". The nurses started laughing and one immediately got up and escorted him back into the wheelchair he was sitting in waiting for his son to pick him up. When his son arrived and he was being pushed out of the room this guy started yelling "all right lets burn some rubber".. This was very funny!! Of course my Dad did not remember it... Rich

I will ditto eveyone's comments who has had one. My sister who is head Nurse in a Endo/Colonoscopy unit of a major hosptial forced me by gun point (well almost) 15 years ago for one. Saved my life -- been getting one every two years since - seems I keep on growing those bad boys. -- If your at that 40 Mark and love your family and life -- ITS A MUST DO -- !!!!

Rule of thumb (No pun intended) up here is to have one every 5 years starting at age 50. The most uncomfortable part of the whole process, as already mentioned, is the two hours on the can preping for the procedure.

I doubt that there is any medical procedure that I would look forward to, but I had my first polyp found and removed in '87, and have been back every 4 or 5 years since.
There is no reason for any sane person to fear or put off having this procedure, but then again, people still refuse to quit smoking. ![]()

im 46 and had the first one 3 years ago. they took out 4 benign polyps. went back 4 weeks ago they took out 4 more. 3 benign and 1 according to the test results and the doc would have been a problem down the line. i will be returning every 2 years for the rest of my life.like someone else said if you love your family and your life run there and get it done. if not then dont.
