I will investigate but i do not believe bias ply tires were made by the major company's for passenger cars that late as radials were introduced in the early 70s only the smaller company,s like kelly springfield for private brand product.I will contact firestone and see what they can tell me.

I contacted firestone customer service # and they were no help so if anyone has more info that would be great.The tires are vintage aug 1968 or aug 1978 non repop.

------Mike,,,This may help or may not. How far out towards the tread is the stripe??? Early Firestone wide ovals had the stripe way out towards the edge and soon after the stripe moved towards the bead. I think it was because there was less flexing of the sidewall closer to the bead so ultimatly there was less seperation or cracks in the stripe. These early tires would be extremely rare and I expect valuable. If the stripe is early the tires are definetly 68 and not 78. Im not sure when the stripe migrated towards the bead but when I picked up my new 1969 Vette in early October the tires had already changed.......Bill S
