I did not go back down there today; I watched it unfold on line. The on-line part ended a little while ago but I"m sure it's still going on because there were starters, generators, exhaust menifolds, headers, a few more "W" blocks, boxes full of hardware, etc there yesterday with lot numbers on them that weren't listed on line.
The rare '64 SS sold for $23,000 (plus 15% + 6% Pa sales tax). Considering the cost to restore it properly, I think that was still an ok buy. Of course, it had no title either (or keys according to the auction co.) They were referring everyone to a title washing company in Alabama which would give you paperwork that would supposedly get you a good title in any other state. I don't know how it would all play out in the future. Sounds like there would still be a risk of losing your car at some point if it was ever discovered as stolen in the past. I know the police were there Thurs. checking VINs on all the cars. Most of the prices I saw were typical of what the item would bring on ebay, although there were bargains on the less desirable items. 3-spd transmissions were selling for $10-$30. ea. One item that always boggles my mind is a 2x4 alum 409 intake. For years I've had the belief that that manifold has to be the most plentiful surviving 409 part on the planet. OF all the motors that got blown up, I figure no one would throw away a factory alum dual quad intake; there're just too cool to throw away! Everyday, there are at least 3-4 of them on ebay and they all sell around $300. Well there were 6 of them at this auction and they sold between $350-$450ea.! Kind of reminds me of college when there was an unspoken contest to see who had the highest stack of beer cans against their dorm wall....... ![]() Verne ![]() |

I did not go back - only because there was nothing I was really interested in. I don't think it was a big rip-off though. Most of the cars did not bring much more then scrap money and the people buying the parts were obviously satisfied to pay the amounts they paid.
There were bargains to be had, 498" crate motors between $300 / $1000, $75 for a slightly burnt 409 dual quad aircleaner, etc, etc. Hell, I would pay $100 for that Hilborn set up just to stick it in my garage! Had that '61 Bubble top been a 4-speed, I might have been interested in that - I don't think it was a bad deal for what it was, not for what it was supposed to be. It would be a cool car to take out and whomp on once in a while! ![]()

Well, I bought three cars, lot 1011, 1018 and 1030. All of the parts were being sold too rich for my blood. $675 for the Hilborn, $325 for a low horse tach, 7$50 for a 82 Camaro borg warner trans, $475 for a burnt up dual quad air cleaner missing a hold down bracket.....

OW!! - E-bay did not update all the starting prices to the actual closing bids - there weren't as many bargains as I thought. I still like that '61 though!
Good luck with your purchases - 1011 had a lot of stuff-are you going to bring them back or??
