------Thanks Charley! I noticed that one end of the tape line was not sealed down and consequently had a bit of spray get behind it. Might duplicate that. I guess I still dont understand the cowl painting process yet. Why would the factory take the extra time with what would amount to an extra step to paint the area under the cowl stripe color??? I know you guys can straighten me out though.........Bill S

Bill
Painting the dark cowl area for white strips cars was just what they did. It is rare to see white paint past the rubber on the cowl panel though. A friend of mine had a original paint Green 68Z with stripe deleate, and the whole upper cowl was painted white on the line B4 they realized stripes were to be deleated, made for alot of Q's on cruise nights. If you have never read this http://www.camaros.org/assemblyprocess.shtml from the Camaro Research Group http://www.camaros.org/index.shtml It is a great read. It gives alot of info on what went on between Fisher body and GM and what was involved to put a car together. Should be a must read for all GM guys. ![]() Tell us more about this ZEE. Mike Here is another shot of the rear stripe on a 69Z around the trunk lip with overspray. Also stripes at the front lip on the hood and header panel could have shown overspray. ![]() |

M22Mike...It is a 04C X77 Norwood car. The cowl to hood seal is on right, just not on all the way.

The top of the cowl was painted white so when you looked down through the vent slots in the cowl panel, it matched the stripes... I believe the same thing was done with black stripes as well... and its actually VERY common for the paint to extend past the hood to cowl seal, in fact, I think just about every original paint 69 Z I've ever seen has some evidence of this... I've even seen it sprayed on so heavy that they got runs of white paint extending down the firewall towards the heater box. Another thing I've seen is that it seems they only used one strip of 3/4" masking tape to end the stripes, with not much (if any) mask below that... so some overspray is sometimes seen on the other side of the tape... you can sorta see evidence of that in the first pic of the fathom green car Darren posted. (driver's side stripe) You can also see white paint beyond the rubber seal on both sides of that car...looks like even the body tag got some white paint on it. I wish I had some pics of the fathom green 69 Z the Supercar Workshop did a few years ago... they duplicated these type of stripe flaws perfectly.

------Thanks Mike and Joe,,,Mike,,,Thats just the pic I want to show my painter. Z is an unusual one in that it is white with orange houndstooth interior. All original drivetrain with most all the good Z options. Im hoping to have it for spring Chevy-Vettefest. Thats becoming such a great show for 1st time out of the box. Its still in paint shop hell but will be back in my control very soon for re-assembly.........Bill S

. [/ QUOTE ] It is interesting to note on this Orange car, the white paint on the cowl area. I have seen several Camaros like this. They got a little carried away with the white paint that day. Charley was that a LA or NOR car ? Mike PS oh yea, cowl to hood seal is upside down, must be that cowl induction seal guy. ![]() |
