That's Jim Idziors' 1970 Gold/Black Chevelle.
It won best MODIFIED at the NCOA Showdown here in 1997. Notice the firewall & underhood are painted body color, among other incorrect factory details.. A real nice guy,who told me then he made it into an L-78,as it did NOT originally come from the factory as an L-78.Notice the M-22 trans, which was NOT possible on the L-78 1970 Chevelle either. It is a nice Chevelle, and priced fairly I believe for what it is,but it's NOT one of the 2144 1970 L-78 Chevelles' originally produced,or a concours correct restoration for those interested in finding one. Champagne Gold is one of my favorites.. ![]() |

Thanks to canadian ssl78 & Northernforce for letting me get the details of the Toronto classifed L-78 close up.
For those curious, seller said it's got a 1970 L-78 Nova block(as the original blew up),& a Borg-Warner T-10 trans, but does retain the original 3:55 posi rearend. It's a idiot light gauge cluster, which George Z. confirms, but the car has a console in it now, which George isn't showing as original equipment,(RPO D-55),which was very possible & quite unique for a Bucket seat 4 spd. Noting other somewhat unique options for these Chevelles: Power windows-Washer jar level indicator-Rear defogg-R-79 Side post battery-Auxillary lighting. Page 1 ![]() |

-----This L78 would be a good runner with the wide-ratio and 3:55 gears along with the 375hp. Nice combo for a bit of extra pep over an M21.......Bill S

Have you ridden in an L78 car that can run 11.70s and is driven on the street regularly. Our L78 might run mid to low 13s on a good day. The owner just put together a '68 Camaro that is stock looking, streetable, and ran 10.60s first time out. The guy is pretty meticulous. It looks like the Chevelle has a buyer as I write this. He's getting a good car.

I have a 1970 L78 convertible 4 spd being restored. Original build sheet, but born with engine is long gone. However, I do have an incredibly rare 70 L78 block. No need to tell you how rare this car is. I will price it reasonable in its current partially restored state if interested. |
