Default Marc 67BelAir427's 1970 Road Runner!

Hi,

I was going to send you a members rides on my 67 427 Bel Air, but I sold the car a few years ago and it is now in the collection of IHRA racer Bruce Litton. Not sure if he would be OK with that. Instead I'll send you pics of my current car. Not a Supercar, just my first Mopar and despite the usual abuse of the term, this one is a real survivor.

I purchased this 1970 Road Runner from the second owner just over a year ago. This is about the most basic bird that you could buy in 1970. Manual steering, brakes, bench seat column shifted 383 auto. I tracked down the original owner before buying the car, and he was kind enough to send me a complete service log from day of delivery, warranty book and day 2 photos. The car has 88,000 original miles, and still retains 80% of it's original paint. The interior is all original, and the car has it's born with drivetrain. Documented with fender tag, door VIN decal, matching body numbers and registered and decoded by Galen. The car has it's original build sheet, and after about a year of ownership I found a second matching one under the front seat. Everything works as day one, and the only deviations from the build sheet are the addition of chrome exhaust tips and the performance hood paint. These were both added to the car by the selling dealer prior to delivery, as verified by the original owner. Pretty neat to be able to call him up when a question arises It seems that this odd color combo was a sales bank car, and sat on the lot until the spring of 1971 before selling. Sharp eyed Mopar gurus will notice the non factory stripe width, I guess it was too much work to walk across the lot and measure the ones on any other Road Runner in the lot.Anyway, just a part of the history I guess.

As this was my first non chevy ride I wanted the most original B Body I could find. This car is usually ignored at Mopar events, as most folks head for the cars with M's and J's and R's in their VIN #'s. With it's orange peel paint, and factory flaws, many assume that it is just a poorly restored Road Runner. I've thought that it really belongs in a collection parked next to a Super Bird, as an example of the simplest Runner in contrast to the wildest. Sort of like bookends .At my first trip to Chryslers at Carlisle this summer, I was impressed by all the cars on the show field, , but it wasn't until I got to the Survivor Tent that I said to myself, this is where my car belongs. Right next to all the other cars with orange peel paint and factory flaws.

Best Regards,
Marc 67BelAir427

Nice 'runner Marc! Bare bones is a GOOD thing. Terrific docs, survivor, and original owner just a phone call away is icing on the "cake". How does it feel to have your 1st vintage MoPar in the stable?

Thanks Sam,
It was the black car parked beside it that got me thinking Mopars. My daily driver is a great car (13.82@101MPH factory stock) but at 3 years old it has a lot more sqeaks and rattles than the one that is 38 years old.

That ladder on the garage wall scares me!!! Think of the damage it could do if it fell onto the RR. Please move the ladder or switch spots with the Magnum.

Beautiful car!

If I ever go to the dark side... it'll be with a RR or Bee.

Awesome ride... clean!

Marc, Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful Road Runner with all of us. I love the color...and I also like the "Yea, It's got a Hemi" banner in the garage...
