Thanks for the lead, Joe Borrelli did not own the Vette, I just got off the phone with him. He said it was built by Joe Owens. He remembered the car and said it had some kind of custom frame under it. Sounds like we are getting warm.

I just sent a email to my dad. He ran a D/MP car in the early 70's in NJ. He lived at Englishtown and Island from 1965 to 1975..

Whatever you do, please do NOT repaint it.
This car has history, the last thing it needs is a cookie-cutter restoration!

I'll second that!

John;
Was the frame still spaced from the body when You got it ? It was when I first looked at it. I was given that lead by a guy in carneys point . Glad You getting somewhere.

I just talked to a friend tonight who lived in Carney's Point all his life, and he never heard of Joe's Paint & Body. But he DID recognize the type of paint graphics as being a trademark of a guy named Bobby Casto from down there. He's going to ask around and see if he can digup anything else. HE did say Bobby was reported to have cancer a few years ago, so he's not sure he's still around. Anyway, that's another lead for you to work on. Good luck.
By the way, it'a pretty obvious by the paint on the hood that the car was racing without a tunnel ram at first.

Ok, let's see, I will start off by saying I do not own the car, but the guy who does will not be painting it. Geesh! The car has some kind of custom built frame under it, and yes the body is spaced up from it. Kind of looks dumb for a Vette, but I guess thats how they did things back then. The Joe Borrelli guy I talked to told me all of this on the phone before I was able to tell him about it. He said Joe's Paint and Body wasn't around very long. I tried anywho, and no Bob Castro in that area either. That is the problem with some of this stuff it is hard to trace. I did find out that the guy has the VIN numbers for the car, but he said they came in a little tool box or something?

OK, I'll say it: How likely does everybody think it is that this New Jersey Corvette drag car with VIN's removed was either stolen and then turned into a drag car, or fraudulently reported stolen ($$ collected) then taken racing?

If you open that tool box and register the VIN with the DMV, I'll bet we'll get one of those "my Vette was stolen 30 years ago and now I'm getting it back!" write ups.....
