Not doubting you, but are you certain that he said 1976?
It was just a cool used car back then. Yes, some of us were chasing them even back then, and it was difficult to find an unmolested Hi-Horse Car after just Seven Model Years.
But wasn't the average American home only worth approx $50k back then?
