They are your constituents and YOU are responsible for them and their needs?? Oh I get it, kind of like the govt. and especially Bush were responsible for the Katrina welfare clan.
Sorry, but I can't buy that and I'm quite sure that's not the America our "founding father" envisioned. Ken, you have put your finger on exactly what is wrong with America today. We have a class of politicians who live off the power garnered from those very people you speak of who think the govt. is the answer to all their problems and needs. What a shame. |

Government is "for, and by the people".Responsibility to your people may mean a new sewer or water upgrade system. Your job is to get it done at the most affordable cost to not put an undue burden on seniors, and people with fixed incomes. Responsibility means spending tax dollars wisley by using open bidding, not awarding no bid contracts. Responsibility means, as Mayor, or president, you are going to be held accountable for your action, or inaction. Bush was/is not responsible for the disaster that happened in New Orleans. He is indirectly responsible for putting people in critical positions who did not follow correct incident command structure protocal. He's not alone. neither did the govenor, or the mayor of NO. |

Gentlemen, please try to be a little bit objective here.
Suppose you have worked hard all of your life, but then you develope a medical condition that forces you to retire. After you lose your insurance, can't get work anymore because of age discrimination, and you loose your house to payoff your bills, what are you going to do? There are many homeless people that are not alcoholics or drug users, but just got crushed by bad luck. Ohio has one of the highest foreclosure rates in the country, because folks who were trusting enough not to read the fine print got screwed when they took out those adjustable rate mortgages that keep going up, and they can't make the payments anymore. Look forward to seeing a lot more of that as the housing market implodes from too much greed. If you're a Republican, check the history books for what Richard Nixon signed into law. Makes him look like a liberal by the neocon standards of today. BTW, he was in favor of social welfare reforms, not welfare elimination. Social Security, Welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, section 8 are all social welfare laws voted on for the benifit of the people that need them. Sure there is abuse and fraud, but congress has passed plenty of "Welfare for the Rich" legislation too. I know millionaires that insist on getting the senior discount they could live without. Saves them a dollar. As Ken S. points out, do something if you want changes. Then think about the people we give charity to, and why they need it. You try to live on Soc. Sec. disability, and see how far that $1400 a month goes. Or just vote to do away with soc. sec, and become homeless because there is no such thing as section 8 housing. Can't afford to put your folks in a nursing home, but don't want the burdon of taking care of them? Without Medicare or Medicaid, your choice might not be the one you like. JMHO. Soryy for venting, it's a touchy subject.

Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me.
I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as they see fit. In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test and I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sit on their butts all day doing drugs, while I pay for it, as many do. Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check? ---------------------- Chris 1966 Yenko Stinger YS-070 1967 Yenko Stinger YS-199 Southeast of Disorder

Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check? Bingo!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those of us that grew up with "The European Work Ethic" Mentality have No Problem Doing what's right to help out.......The Majority that grew up with the "Entitlement" Mentality (Read Welfare) don't even understand how Society Evolved into the "If you don't work, You don't eat" mentality of the early 1900's......It was simple then.........Work......Eat.......Work.......Eat... ...Not too hard to balance out and figure it out.......And....If you worked Harder and Longer and Smarter......you might be able to afford a "Luxury" item......I'm Sorry, But I was brought up differently than Most "Liberal" thinking people" and I "Think" ............."I Get It"...... ![]() ![]() ![]()

Richard 'Moe' Nixon also signed into law the EPA, OSHA and affirmative action laws. I'm not sure who is more damnable for the current PC crisis we find ourselves in, Nixon or LBJ.
I'm not a Rep., but a conservative who believes we should either live according to our US constitution or throw it out and be done with it. I don't think the govt. has the right or legal responsibility to take from one person and give to another regardless of the emotional argument involved. Bush did not have the right to give 9/11 victims (?) hundreds of millions of dollars of stolen money any more than he had the right to give MN an unconstitutional, yet emotionally satisfying $30 million. The shredding of our constitution has led to politicians, all of them, regarding our stolen money as theirs. Theirs to buy votes, garner goodwill, keep power and do with as they please. They seem to resent letting us keep any of our earnings. Earmarks, pork, whatever you call it is out of control. A man who doesn't respect what you have EARNED does not respect you in any way. Our elected tyrants have no respect whatsoever for their subjects. And I, for one, am sick of all of them. |
