Bruce, very well could be true in this case. Overall though, it is accepted by many that a potential buyer contact sellers and try to end an auction early [ebay can ban you for this ],Ok to inspect things after already winning them[also not allowed by ebay], yet if a seller has sellers remorse or is told later he sold an item too cheap and wants to default ,all of a sudden people get upset. Just sticking up for the sellers

Good Point King. I noticed that as well people mentioning not going through with it. I do know Les well, and he is a stand up guy and I am sure will do the right thing.
Also, I really don't think it's that bad a deal. Especially if you are looking for a nice driver and not a 100 point show car. Especially if you can do some things yourself, as I believe that Les can. All in all, I think you can make a driver LS6 out of that car for 30k or thereabouts if you can do some work yourself. I am still concerned about the buildsheet. Are there any codes on there that would support this being the sheet for this car? Now, if the sheet were bad (ie some error that would disprove the car belonging to the sheet), then I would think that it would be OK for the buyer to back out, IMHO. Rich

The sheet and the car are for a KC car. The interior 791 is white buckets. The tach is real as well as the buildsheet.Im sure an inspection would show it being a 4 speed car originally Would be nice to see a date or a vin on the BS, but then again cars have been "documented" with alot less than this car has. It would be difficult to match a car and a BS from a white interior KC chevelle, and id say if the vin was on the buildsheet the car would be around 45K or better. Buy it !

So, if the sheet is real, and the codes match the colors, then I think this was a OK deal, IMHO. Especially if you cannot afford a 80k resored car all in one shot (not saying that is the case with Les, just in general).
Another point is that with a restored car, you never know what "shortcuts" were taken, with a project, if you are looking for a keeper (which I believe that Les is looking to keep the car), then at least with a project you know exactly what you have when completed.

looks to have boxed rear bars, also the trans shot(not the best)looks to have a large yoke? maybe the m-22 is still in there under the grease.

45k without the original motor and possibly trans and rear end? Judging from the ladder bars it's been enjoyed before being put back to stock for it's long hibernation. Without paper or motor it could easily be an original 396 car but i'm not sure how one could document anything for certain at this point given what's not present.I would think the pan is as soft as those quarters(NOS one's nearing 3K)and he states it's been parked for nearly thirty years... she's gonna need a big hug.I have to agree with both you and Howard that 50k for one that's all there with ironclad docs is ballpark valuation, but this one does not make economical sense for a top shelf project imo.
On a side note i'm totally convinced at this point that mice obviously know that the upper right corner is the rib- eye of the sheet ![]() |
