Default Re: Dick Landy 64 Dodge funny car for sale

I would say Dick Landy's exploits were part..but not all of the reason for the AWB 65 cars. In fact, it is considered in some circles, that the Ramchargers were the first group to go the 2% route which led to the AWB revolution. The Ramchargers 64 hemi car was also the "mule car" for all the race hemi's(really the first hemi drag car).

Still very rare car..just need to keep in mind the other important Mopar racers of the time. Dick's 65 car actually traded hands for more than the asking price on the 64.

Just my opinion...

Regards,
Alex

Good info Alex. Those talented and energetic Ramchargers were definitely pushing the envelope. "The First Funny Car" reference to Dick's car is not literal. My understanding is it just happened that the announcer at the track coined the unique look as such altho other "funny" looking cars had preceded it including the Ramcharger boys. Dick was really starting to push the rules beyond the "2%" as the year went on. Anyway, its all great history and this car speaks to me! Wouldn't mind having one of the 2% cars either!

Huh-huh....your bio says you're from Fort Dodge

Hi Sam,

You caught me.. a guy from Ft. "DODGE" on a chebbie site. Rest assured I have no Dodges just Chebbies (and a few PLYMOUTH's ). Really wouldn't mind Landy's Dodge but I'd have to give away an "arm and a leg" and still couldn't afford it.

The car was for sale in the late 70's in the National Dragster for considerably less(like all of them of course). If I can ever find the ad I'll post it.

Having fun,
Alex
