Joe,
Some but not all are dated. I don't recall on the low horse covers as I never cared but at least the high horse covers that I have had similar to what you described for the solid lifter engines normally have date codes on them. They are usually found on the horizontal bar just above the timing tab and just to the right of the round center protrussion.

I think they are a Julian style so your date would read the 145th day of 1969 and normally these dates can be seen (post 69) with the engine installed. One I have in the shop says 15- and nothing more but I know that I have had others that also had a "70" on them. Hope this helps you.
